The City of Meridian is governed by an elected Mayor and a four-person City Council.
Meridian is located in Ada County, which is governed by a three-person Board of Commissioners.
Meridian is currently served by 70 sworn law enforcement officers, plus 4 reserve officers. The Meridian Police Dept has 14 administrative personnel which includes the Chief of Police. MPD has a K-9 Department and also oversees the City Animal Shelter.
Meridian has four fire stations, with 42 firefighters, a full-time fire chief, 1 assistant chief, and 2 deputy chiefs. In addition, there are 6 part-time, on-call firefighters. All Meridian firefighters are EMT qualified. The Meridian Fire Dept. operates a Fire Safety Center where school children are trained in fire safety.
Three state legislative districts serve the city limits of Meridian. District 20 encompasses the central part of the city. District 14 includes north Meridian, and District 21 includes south Meridian. For contact information for Idaho legislators, click here.
